The Need for a Home Alarm System

This entry is an aid to homeowners. I began my career as a criminal many years ago and I specialized in home invasion robberies. After being convicted and doing a stretch in prison, I resolved to use my experience and knowledge for good and tell people how they can deter burglars. In short, by far the most successful way to deter robberies is to buy home alarm systems.
When a criminal is intending to rob a house, he will usually observe a whole block for likely targets. He looks for telltale signs that a house would be easy to rob – bushy shrubs hiding entry points, mail or newspapers accumulated at the house indicating that the residents are on a trip, and most significantly, no suggestion that the house has an alarm system. If they see a little alarm company sign by the door, decals on the windows, or an exterior control panel, burglars simply move on.

Modern alarm systems are very high-tech but are simple to operate. One alarm system is programmed to operate lights, radios and televisions to mimic the house being occupied. Others permit remote access to the system through a cell phone. Possibly you and your kids are coming home from a concert and as you arrive, you think you may have seen activity inside the house. You can call a pre-set number on your cell phone and immediately the lights inside your residence all turn on and the person is scared off. There are some home alarm systems that can monitor the carbon dioxide levels of a dwelling, provide a level of reassurance for the elderly or the sick with monitoring systems for health issues, and even let you know when children get in after school.

Also, please remember that home security alarm systems are only effective if they are set and armed. So many people have a tendency to inadequately arm their systems during working hours because they do not believe anyone would break in in broad daylight. Actually, most robberies occur during working hours for the very reason that most people are at work so the chance of being noticed is actually reduced during the day. Home alarm systems – if used diligently – will always stop burglaries.
